Civic Integration Exam B1

The Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) has announced several changes to applicable laws and regulations. Also, the service stated that these changes may affect its clients from January 1, 2022. One of the most significant changes is the introduction of a new civic integration system based on the new Civic Integration Act 2021 (The Civic Integration Exam B1 was also affected by this).

Under the new system, municipalities will play a more significant role in supporting newcomers in the Netherlands. Besides, the municipalities will develop an individual civic integration plan together with the newcomers. On the other hand, the desired language level for newcomers has been raised to B1. And, also three different learning pathways are available to meet the civic integration obligation.

Along with the changes to the civic integration system, the IND has implemented several other changes. One of these changes is the extension of the validity period for work permits. From 1 January 2022, various permits for employment can now be valid for up to three years. So, individuals can work in the Netherlands for a longer duration.
